Children's Piano Lessons in Brighton & Hove
A Strong Foundation, A Lifelong Love of Music
As an experienced piano teacher, I believe every child is unique. That's why every lesson is tailored to each student's personality, learning style and musical interests.
My private piano lessons help children build confidence, enjoy making music and develop a strong musical foundation in a fun, supportive and encouraging environment.
Whether your child is a complete beginner or already has some experience, lessons are carefully adapted to help them progress with confidence while enjoying every step of their musical journey.
Every Child Learns Differently
No single teaching method works for every child.
I carefully choose from a variety of piano methods and books to suit each student's age, personality, experience and goals, helping every child develop at their own pace while building confidence and a genuine love of music.
Building Strong Musical Foundations
Students gradually develop:
- Good posture and healthy piano technique
- Reading music
- Ear training
- Rhythm and coordination
- Musical expression
- Creativity through improvisation and composition
Strong musical foundations help children enjoy playing while giving them the skills to continue developing for many years to come.
Learning Music They Love
Although my own training was rooted in classical piano, I believe children stay motivated when they enjoy the music they're learning.
Alongside building a strong classical foundation, students may also explore:
- Classical repertoire
- Film and soundtrack music
- Pop music
- Jazz and blues
- Contemporary repertoire
- Pieces chosen according to their own interests
This balanced approach helps children develop excellent technique while enjoying a wide variety of musical styles.
Supporting Every Child's Goals
Every family has different goals.
Whether your child would like to:
- Learn for enjoyment
- Prepare for ABRSM or Trinity exams
- Build a strong classical foundation
- Prepare for performances
- Work towards higher musical education
lessons are always adapted to suit their individual needs.
While exams can be a wonderful source of motivation, I never believe they should take away the joy of making music.
Creativity Matters
One of the things that makes my lessons different is that students don't just learn to play music—they also learn to create it.
Alongside reading music, I encourage children to:
- Improvise
- Compose their own melodies
- Develop their musical ear
- Explore their own musical ideas
These skills help children become confident, independent and expressive musicians who understand music rather than simply reproduce it.
Supporting Musical Talent
If a child demonstrates exceptional musical potential, I'm always happy to guide families through the next steps, including preparing for music scholarships, conservatoire auditions and higher musical education where appropriate.
Working Together with Parents
Parents play an important role in a child's musical progress.
I encourage families to share short practice videos from home whenever they wish. This allows me to provide guidance between lessons, celebrate progress and help maintain motivation in a positive and encouraging way.
A Safe and Supportive Learning Environment
As a DBS-checked piano teacher, I provide a safe, welcoming and encouraging environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and growing in confidence.
Learning Should Be Enjoyable
Above all, I want children to look forward to their piano lessons.
Since I began teaching in 2006, I've learned that confidence grows when children feel safe, understood and encouraged.
My goal is not simply to teach children how to play the piano, but to help them develop creativity, resilience and a lifelong love of music.
Whether your child dreams of becoming a professional musician or simply wants to enjoy playing the piano as a hobby, I'll be delighted to support them on their musical journey.
Lessons are available in Brighton & Hove and online, making it easy for families to continue learning wherever they are.
