ADULT PIANO LESSONS

Adult Piano Lessons in Brighton & Hove

Learn Piano Your Way

Whether you're taking your very first lesson, returning to the piano after many years, or looking to develop your existing skills, every lesson is tailored to your individual goals, interests and level of experience.

Learning the piano should be enjoyable, inspiring and rewarding. Whether you dream of playing classical masterpieces, film music, jazz, pop or simply your favourite songs, I'll help you build the skills and confidence to get there.

Choose Your Own Musical Journey

Every adult has different goals, so together we'll create a learning plan that suits you.

You might want to:

  • Learn piano from the very beginning
  • Build a strong classical foundation
  • Play your favourite songs
  • Learn film and soundtrack music
  • Explore jazz and blues
  • Improve your existing technique
  • Develop improvisation and composition skills
  • Prepare for ABRSM or Trinity exams
  • Simply play for relaxation and enjoyment

Classical Foundations with Creativity

My own musical education was rooted in classical piano, and I believe a strong technical foundation gives students confidence and freedom at the instrument.

At the same time, I don't believe every student should follow exactly the same path.

Alongside technique and musicianship, I encourage students to develop their creativity through:

  • Improvisation
  • Composition
  • Ear training
  • Playing by ear
  • Exploring different musical styles

Rather than simply learning to play from sheet music, my aim is to help students become confident, expressive and independent musicians.

Reading Music – A Valuable Skill, Not the Only Path

Many adult students worry about reading music before they even begin.

The good news is that you don't need any previous musical knowledge to start learning the piano.

I personally believe that learning to read music is a valuable skill. It opens the door to an enormous repertoire, gives you the freedom to explore music independently and helps you continue learning for years to come.

However, it's not the only path to becoming a confident musician.

Many outstanding musicians have built remarkable careers through improvisation, playing by ear and creativity, without relying heavily on sheet music.

That's why I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on your goals, we can focus on reading music, playing by ear, improvisation—or combine all three.

Together, we'll find the approach that best suits your goals, learning style and musical interests.

Progress at Your Own Pace

Learning the piano isn't a race.

Some students enjoy working towards exams, while others simply want to play music they love after work or at weekends.

Every lesson is designed to give you achievable goals and a genuine sense of progress. Small successes each week gradually become lasting confidence and bigger musical achievements.

A Relaxed and Supportive Environment

Many adults worry that they don't have enough time to practise, that they're "not musical", or that they've started too late.

Please don't worry.

Learning the piano should never feel intimidating.

My role is to guide, encourage and support you at every stage of your musical journey, helping you build confidence while enjoying the process.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe there is no single "right" way to learn the piano.

Strong classical foundations provide confidence, excellent technique and musical understanding, while creativity helps students develop their own musical voice.

Whether your goal is to play your favourite songs, improve your technique, prepare for exams or simply enjoy making music, lessons are always adapted to suit your individual goals, interests and learning style.

Above all, I hope every student leaves each lesson feeling more confident, inspired and excited to sit down at the piano again.
